The painful vision of the dying man pushes Giovanni to search for any distraction while Lidia, as if devoid of all feelings, wanders aimlessly in the sunny and deserted city. In the evening, after a bored visit to a nightclub, the two reach the sumptuous villa of an industrialist who is offering Giovanni a profitable job. Giovanni takes his time. He reaches the guest's daughter, who is bored in her almost pathetic solitude, and woos her.
