Anima persa: The Asylum

The island indicated by Gassman to his nephew Tino (Mattei), his guest (they pass by us in a motorboat) as the island of madmen is the island of San Clemente in the Venice lagoon. The nineteen-year-old Tino, an aspiring painter, is a guest in Venice of his uncle Fabio Stolz, a haughty engineer at the gas company, proud of his Habsburg origin, and of his wife Elisa, completely submissive to her husband. One evening, coming from the attic of the ancient building where they live, Tino hears unexplained noises.
