PLOT

At the time of the German occupation a swindler, Bertone, is arrested by the SS: he is accused of having had sums paid to him by relatives of those shot and deported, boasting of nonexistent adherences to the German command. Now the man himself is exposed to the danger of being shot; but the senior officer questioning him gets the idea of making use of the ability demonstrated by the accused to weave cheats for his own ends.
