PLOT:
The Marquise Eugenia di Maqueda, brought up by nuns, motherless and separated since childhood from her philandering father who lives in Paris, marries Raimondo Corrao. Just as the couple is about to consummate the marriage, Eugenia receives a letter from her father revealing that Raimondo is also his son. The two decide to live together and act like brother and sister. After their honeymoon in Paris, Eugenia and Raimondo return to Sicily. Here, while Raimondo devotes himself to reading D'Annunzio and leaves to serve his country in the Libyan wars, Eugenia devotes herself to pious works. But the marquise's erotic urges, accentuated by reading modern romance novels, find an outlet in the Tuscan chauffeur Silvano Pennacchini. Widowed by the world war, Eugenia finds Silvano again and remains in his plebeian arms.
